Pan Fried Steel is a community steel band based in Yarmouth, Maine. Our director is Ian Ramsey, chair of the Arts Department at North Yarmouth Academy, musician, teacher, writer, and Pied Piper of music. The band started more than 15 years ago and draws members from southern and midcoast Maine.
We play a diverse repertoire including calypso, reggae, soca, Latin, swing, and covers from Charlie Parker to Jimmy Buffett to CCR.
Pan Fried Steel plays stand-alone performances as well as summer concert series, fundraisers, events, weddings, and private parties. Venues have included the Boothbay Opera House, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, LL Bean Discovery Park, Maine Brewer's Festival, Wiscasset Alive on the River series, Yarmouth Clam Festival, and the Portland Ovations auction.
Pan Fried Steel has performed on boats, on gazebos, in rose gardens, under tents, on floats, next to farm animals, and, once, with Yoko Ono. Mostly the members like learning, laughing, dancing, playing music, and spending time together.
We practice most Monday nights from 7 - 9 p.m. in the music room at North Yarmouth Academy on Main Street in Yarmouth, Maine. Come visit and, if you like, try out a steel pan. Email us to be sure we'll be there: firstname.lastname@example.org. We are very welcoming!
